Export your Signal chat to PDF

Drop your Signal export here or click to choose a file — .md, .txt or .zip, any size

Drop the .md or .txt file produced by signal-export, then export a clean or court-ready PDF with sequential numbering and integrity hashes.

Nothing is uploaded. Your chat is parsed entirely in your browser — it never touches a server.

A preview of the reading view. Open your own export and it fills with your conversation, in this app’s own colours.

Three steps, under a minute

  1. 1

    Export with signal-export

Install with pipx install signal-export, then run sigexport ~/signal-chats on the computer running Signal Desktop. Android needs signalbackup-tools first to decrypt the .backup file.

  2. 2

    Open it here

Drop the .md or .txt file, or the zipped export folder with media. Nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3

    Export your PDF

Click Export PDF and choose a tier: free, Unlimited ($9), or Court-ready ($19) with Bates stamps and SHA-256 hashes.

What you get

Free preview PDF

Export the first 500 messages with a small watermark at no cost — enough to check formatting before you buy.

Unlimited PDF, $9 one-time

Every message in the conversation, with embedded photos and no watermark. One payment unlocks it on every export you open, forever.

Court-ready PDF, $19 one-time

Adds a cover page with case caption and exhibit label, sequential message numbers, Bates stamps, the SHA-256 hash of your export file and of the generated PDF, a verification page, and a prefilled certificate template for India, the US, UK, Australia, Canada or a generic international version.

Timezone noted, not hidden

signal-export records timestamps in the local time of the exporting machine — the court-ready cover page records this so the timezone basis of every timestamp is explicit rather than assumed.

Attachments embedded

Photos and other media from your export's media folder are embedded directly in the PDF pages, in sending order.

Private by architecture

No account, no upload, no server-side processing. The PDF and its SHA-256 hash are both generated on your machine.

How a Signal export becomes a PDF

Since Signal has no official export, the source file always comes from the open-source signal-export tool reading Signal Desktop's local database. The converter reads the resulting markdown or text file the same way the viewer does, laying out each message as a page in sending order with attachments from the media folder embedded in place.

Because the file records local machine time rather than UTC, it's worth exporting on the same computer and timezone the messages were originally received on when that level of precision matters — the court-ready tier notes the timezone basis on its cover page either way.

When you need the court-ready version

Signal conversations often carry particular weight in a case precisely because people choose Signal for sensitive discussions. The Court-ready PDF produces the complete conversation with a cover page, sequential numbering, Bates stamps and SHA-256 hashes of both the original export and the finished PDF, so integrity can be verified later.

It cannot guarantee a specific court's acceptance — that depends on your jurisdiction and the rest of your evidence, and this is not legal advice. The prefilled certificate template still needs to be reviewed and signed by the person who actually ran the export.

Questions people ask

Is it private?

Yes. Your Signal export never leaves your device — parsing, PDF generation and hashing all happen locally in your browser.

Can I use it in court?

The Court-ready PDF produces a complete transcript with a cover page, sequential numbering, Bates stamps, SHA-256 hashes and a certificate template. Whether a specific court accepts it depends on your jurisdiction and the rest of your evidence — this is not legal advice, and the certificate must be signed by whoever ran the export.

How do I get a Signal chat as a file to convert?

Signal has no export button. Install the open-source signal-export tool (pipx install signal-export), run sigexport ~/signal-chats on the computer with Signal Desktop, then drop the resulting .md or .txt file here.

Will the PDF include Signal attachments?

Yes, in the Unlimited and Court-ready tiers, photos and other media from your export's media folder are embedded directly in the PDF in sending order.

What timezone do the PDF timestamps use?

Whatever local time was set on the computer that ran signal-export. The Court-ready cover page records this explicitly so the basis for every timestamp is documented.

Do I need to pay again for each conversation?

No. An unlock key is a one-time purchase and works on every export you open, in any browser, for as long as the site exists.
